Try these wonderful frozen chocolate banana popsicles when the thermometer hits 90 degrees fahrenheit and you're looking for a delicious and healthy treat, They are fun and simple to make, especially with the kids.
Tips:
Freezing the bananas:
Do not freeze your bananas with the peel! I didn't want to state the obvious, but someone did send me a picture of a bunch of frozen bananas and asked me, "What next?" It is best to prep the banana by peeling and skewering it with either a popsicle stick, kabob skewer or even a chopstick and then freezing it.
If you buy bananas on sale and have too many, freeze some for these popsicles (with the skewer) and place them in a ziploc bag until needed while the bananas are not fully ripened. If the bananas are overripe, you can either make banana bread or freeze them unpeeled in a ziploc bag to be baked at a later date.
Dipping the chocolate:
Use a tall, narrow container that you can swirl your frozen banana in without the sides touching. In this way, you won't have to use as many chocolate chips than if you would, using a shallow bowl. Hold the container at a diagonal, twist the stick around so that the banana is evenly coated.
Attach the binder clips close to the banana so that the other end of the banana will not touch the base of the bowl / pot.
In order to get the smooth surface, allow the popsicle's chocolate to harden while suspended. I achieve this by suspending the popsicle over a tall bowl / pot with the help of binder clips. Otherwise, if you place them on a cookie tray, you get a flat puddle of chocolate on one side of your popsicle...not the end of the world, but suspending your popsicles produce a better looking result.
Toppings:
The sky's the limit with toppings. Just like the chocolate, you can place it in a tall container and swirl the popsicle around. The chocolate should not be dripping or else it will get into your topping. However, if the chocolate hardens, it will be more difficult to adhere to the popsicle. Practice makes perfect!
Have fun making these and be creative with your toppings! Enjoy!
